Discarded Nut Youth Theatre is a cutting edge company of young actors committed to creating breath-taking & high-quality contemporary adaptations of classic plays. We seek exceptional young people with a passion for theatre and acting, and who have a real interest in pursuing theatre as a career in the future. We look for young people aged between 11-25 who are:
- A team player
- A desire to develop performance and personal skills
This year, we will be creating two companies who will each perform one incredible piece of theatre. Each company will also act as the backstage/front-of-house crew for the other company's performance which means you each get an all-round experience of life in the theatre.
The contemporary group will look at scripts from the 1950s to modern day as well as exploring what it is like to devise and create their own original scripts through verbatim theatre techniques. Themes will be based around issues which the group relate to and that they feel passionately about bringing to a wider audience.
The classic group will look at scripts prior to the 1950s, exploring different styles of performance needed depending on the style of the playwright. Using games and techniques inspired by some of the greatest drama practitioners like Boal, Brecht and Stanislavski, the group will create a create a highly original adaptation of a classic script with a modern twist.
The standards of performance and production that our company aspire to, makes DNYT an ideal environment for anyone wanting to make the performing arts their career. We are positive that as a company we will rise to any challenges that come up in order to make this a wholly successful and high quality experience for our participants.
